Can Myofascial Release help with depression, fatigue and anxiety?

Most of us have no trouble identifying our five senses. They are after all, the ones we depend on to see, hear, smell, touch and taste our way through life.
But hands up who knows their three further senses?
Proprioception and Exteroception aside, there is another, hidden sense that is key to mental wellbeing.

Interoception is our ability to have a sense of how we feel inside our bodies at any given moment.

Fertility Treatments at Healing Space

It’s May already! And the days are finally getting longer and brighter. The month of May has always been strongly associated with fertility in England and the surrounding Celtic countries in ancient times. The Mayday Maypole around which young maidens danced with flowers in their hair was seen as an ancient fertility rite. Romans also chose to celebrate this time of year with dancing, wearing flowers and spreading seeds of all kinds. It symbolises fertility of the land, but also that of its people.

Physiotherapist Joins Healing Space

I was particularly interested in recruiting Alice as she has a strong focus on pregnancy and postnatal treatments. At our clinic we pride ourselves in being a center of excellence for all pregnancy and postnatal treatments. Alice is a very welcome addition to our team of experts who can support you during this wonderful time. She joins our team of pregnancy specialists which includes acupuncturists, massage therapists, nutritionists and reflexologists.

In this country sadly the postnatal focus is always on the baby and not the mum. After my first baby the GP just asked if I was ok, I said yes, and that was it.

Western Herbalism - what is it?

Because much of our European herbalism was destroyed by Christianity, it has taken much time, research and love to slowly regain its rightful place as the origin and foundation of modern medicine, our medicinal heritage.

THE HEALING ART OF AROMATHERAPY for digestive condition

Around Christmas time, we tend to travel around visiting friends and family, which can upset the rhythm of our digestive systems. (see Christmas promo at end of blog :) )

As much as Christmas can be fun for some of us, it can also be stressful. Having to handle the two aunts that don’t get along, the old grandad who complains, the shouting (even if cheerful) kids around…or simply the stress of having to work and being far from your family and all by yourself.

There is also all the food factor. Oh yes. We are going to eat & drink more than usual!

In the meantime,

let’s start digging into digestive issues…

Digestive conditions are much more common than we think. Symptoms can vary from diarrhoea and/or constipation, gastric reflux, bloating and gas (which can be very painful). When I talk about digestive conditions, it includes conditions of the digestive tracts and organs all the way from the mouth to the exit (Oesophagus, stomach, intestines small and large etc )

Most people just “accept” living with these symptoms, but there is so much you can do with essential oils to soothe them and even perhaps heal the condition from the root.

We are all so different, and Aromatherapy being considered as a Holistic Therapy, it is important to understand each individual as a whole when it comes to choosing oils to create a blend.

The main question is, would the same essential oil blend work the same way on two different people with the same digestive complaints? To answer that question, I have come to find a connection between Aromatherapy and Ayurveda, because Ayurveda is a great system that really studies a person as a whole.

The Healing Art of Aromatherapy for Stress related conditions by Elea

“Aromatherapy is a very subtle form of healing and just a little goes a very long way. “

The Dictactory of Essential Oils – Wanda Sellar

Aromatherapy means the use of essential oils to help treat certain conditions. Stress is a very common condition nowadays for multiple reasons. Essential oils can be very efficient to find relief from anxiety, depression, insomnia etc

The therapist will pick 2 to 3 essential oils which are blended with a carrier oil then massaged onto the skin.

But...

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Most of the time when people think of the word “aromatherapy” they think of “sense of smell”.
Indeed, aromatherapy can affect your mood positively thanks to it smell and help you to relax.

We all have strong olfactory memories. If you spent summer holidays in Mediterranean countries surrounded by lavender fields, you might find that Lavender essential oil will take you back to a wholesome memory and therefore will relax you. Or if your lovely grandmother was using rose scents cosmetics and her bathroom always smelled of rose fields then perhaps rose essential oil might be the one for you. Or if you travelled to India (or have been to any Indian-incense shops) then maybe Sandalwood oil is for you.

How to receive a massage

Getting a massage for the first time, or from a therapist you’ve never met before, can be a nerve-wracking experience. Let’s face it: getting near-naked in a room with a total stranger for an hour or more while said stranger touches you all over your body – sometimes in places where nobody has touched you for a long time, or perhaps ever – well, it’s just a bit… extraordinary, isn’t it? If you’re the kind of person for whom the thought of this provokes anxiety, then don’t worry – you’re not alone.

In fact, I’ll let you into a little secret. I only got my first proper massage – one where you undress and get on a couch and a trained professional puts oil on you and moves your tissues around – three years ago! No, that wasn’t a typo. Despite giving and receiving lots of massage during my time as an actor – in rehearsals and warming up for shows – I never thought I was the getting-near-naked-in-a-room-with-a-total-stranger type. The thought of it – the intimacy, the vulnerability, the potential awkwardness – sent shivers up my spine. No thanks – when those muscular aches and pains called, I’d just grit my teeth and pop a couple more paracetamol thank you very much.
